After being hailed as the most-watched show in 2022, the fans are on a fever pitch on Stranger Things Season 5 release date. Season 4 came out during the first half of 2022. It’s safe to say it’s been a hot minute, and it’s about time for a new one. Fans have been jumping the gun behind the keyboard, impatiently anticipating any update crumbs they can find.

In April 2022, The Duffer Brothers, cocreators revealed that the Stranger Things saga will end in season 5 on the Happy Sad Confused Podcast. You’ll be in for a treat as the season finale lasts two hours.

Meanwhile, to kill some time, they have been coming up with all sorts of crazy fan theories about Stanger Things season 5, hoping one might hit the nail on the head. So, are any of them true?

The season 4 conclusion of the blockbuster Netflix series left Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown), Will Byers (Noah Schnapp), and their friends dealing with the consequences of Vecna’s (Jamie Campbell Bower) destruction in Hawkins.

Popular Stranger Things Season Five Fan Theories

There is a Stranger Things season five theory that roots Vecna’s redemption arc after everything he’s done. Vecna’s atonement might entail self-destruction, or he could permanently lock all portals to the Upside Down and live among its horror creatures. The chances of this happening are one in a million but never say never.

What’s the ending of a show if it doesn’t kill one of its main characters, leaving us all sobbing? Since Vecna requires a Vessel, Will is a perfect candidate. Instead of tagging along Vecna’s plans, he sacrifices himself, throwing Vecna under the bus. This theory is consistent with the narrative of Dungeons & Dragons. Will and his pals are playing a game in which his character, Will the Wise, takes a risk and dies.

A bit of a risky plan involves using Max’s connection to kill Vecna. After a close call with Vecna in Season 4, Max ended up in a coma. But we wouldn’t rule out the possibility of Max doing it all over again.

So, which theory sparked the controversy?

The theory that took the internet by storm is that the entire series is nothing more than an elaborate Dungeons and Dragons game with none of the events actually taking place, including Vecna’s mass destruction. It’s as if the show is one colossal, imaginative quest with no real-world consequences.

Matt and Ross Duffer, the show’s co-creators, have put the gossip to rest and have shot this theory down.

In an interview with Metro, Matt Duffer laughingly said, “That is correct,” but then brushed off the theory, saying, “That is the ending… No.”

“That would be the equivalent of, ‘That’s all a dream.”Ross Duffer added, “No, I assure you, that is not how we’re going to end the show. We’ve known where we’ve been going for a while. And we feel comfortable with it; hopefully, it satisfies everyone. We’ll see.”

Now that this theory has been put to rest, fans still anticipate a larger-than-life ending.

Stranger Things Season 5 Release Date

The shooting was supposed to start in 2023, but the SAG-AFTRA writer’s strike was a boulder in the way, halting productions and scripts for a while.  Jim Harper dropped some exciting news that the shooting will commence simultaneously with Marvel’s Thunderbolt, both happening in Georgia. Unfortunately, Stranger Things Season 5 won’t hit our screens until 2025 the earliest.

So, what else do we know about the upcoming season?

For starters, there’s another addition to the already star-studded cast. Linda Hamilton of the Terminator franchise is set to join the show, although her role remains a mystery.

The Duffer brothers hinted at the fate of season five without giving anything away, that this might be the deadliest show of the season. “Just as important as the supernatural, we have so many characters now – most of whom are still living,” Ross Duffer said. “And it’s important to wrap up those arcs. We fear a tragic end to one of our favorite characters might be coming. While there are many speculations on the internet, this remains an enigma to unfold.

Noah Schnapp also gave us a little teaser for the future of his character, Will Byers. Will’s journey has been nothing less of a roller coaster so far. Being lost in the Upside Down took a toll on him, and the connection between him and the otherworldly creatures has never been severed. Forbes interviewed Noah to spill some details regarding the new season.  He told them he was excited and content with how the show ended. He responded,” It starts with Will and ends with Will.”

A tweet from the Stranger Things authors’ official Twitter account on March 21, 2023, read: ‘Season 5 is as if season 1 and 4 had a kid. The infant was then injected with steroids.’

Matt and Ross Duffer developed Stranger Things. Shawn Levy, Dan Cohen, Brian Wright, Cindy Holland, Jessica Mecklenburg, Matt Thunell, Karl Gajdusek, Iain Paterson, and Curtis Gwinn acted as executive producers.
